HAuNTcon 2011 Haunt Tours Announced!

PreShow Haunt Tour (April 27-28, 2011)-  Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime road trip to visit TEN different haunts including: Waverly Hills Sanatorium, Wicked World’s Nightmare Haunted House, Screampark’s Castle Of Fear, The Abyss and Insanity, St Rita Haunted House, The Dent Schoolhouse, Necropolis, Dark Terrors, PLUS a couple of surprises.  All-inclusive price includes:  bus, hotel, food and entry to all events. Thursday Night Tours (April 28, 2011)-  Experience TWO amazing haunts for one low price as we tour the Haunted Hotel and Culbertson Mansion.  Buses leave at 6:30pm- PreShow tourers will be back in time for the Thursday event.  VIP transportation and General Admission tickets are available.

2011 “Make & Take” Classes Announced!

We are excited to announce this year’s “Make & Take” Classes.  In each of these hands-on workshops, attendees will be provided all materials and instructed step by step through the process of building a prop or special effect. At the conclusion of the class, attendees get to take what they create home with them. Techniques learned in the classes can then be used by attendees on future projects. Join us for a special collection of all-day seminars on Monday, May 2, 2011.  Here are the classes offered:

Evil Twin FX Hands On Sock Mask Making Workshop- Presented by Brian & Nick Wolfe of Evil Twin FX

Join Brian & Nick Wolfe of Evil Twin FX for this full day hands-on make & take workshop. Cameras and note pads are a must, as students will be instructed on how to create a custom one off, one-of-a-kind form fitting character mask. This hands-on workshop covers all aspects of building, painting and detailing a “sock mask” using everyday materials and foam latex appliances. By the end of the day, attendees will have completed their own mask that they can take home with them.

The Davis Graveyard – Building a Cemetery- Presented by Jeff & Chris Davis and the Davis graveyard crew

In this workshop, we will jumpstart or enhance an existing cemetery with a collection of foam based props which include tombstones, a weathered wood coffin, several monuments and an elaborate tomb, which are the basic essentials to get you on your way to that picture perfect cemetery.   At the end of the session a randomly chosen attendee will go home with the entire collection.

Getting Started in the Haunted House Business- By Leonard Pickel of D.O.A Design and Consulting

This session is a comprehensive overview of the various concerns relating to a “first time” October seasonal production, but even a well-established Halloween event will learn from Leonard’s 30 plus years of professional Haunting design and consulting experience. A Haunted Attraction is a business, and like any other business what you don’t know about this specialized field can kill you!

As he lays out a plan for success for you, Leonard will reveal his vision for what a successful event consists of and how to maximize your profits while minimizing costs and effort. Topics include: location requirements, safety and code compliance, attraction style, attraction design, multi-element approach, timed ticketing, advertising, operations, and answers to the most frequently asked questions, “How big should the attraction be, how much should I charge, and how much will it cost?”

SpFxWmn Productions Character Development Workshop- Presented by Michele L. Arroyo of SpFxWmn Productions Inc.

As many of you know, believable actors make the difference in getting the scare. Perhaps the reverse is more prevalent: when the actors break character or aren’t believable, people do not get scared and they don’t have the fun they came for. One of the things that helps an actor stay in character is an understanding of their characters and how they think.  This course will help you develop a detailed character to use in your haunt.

About HAuNTcon

An acronym for the Haunted Attraction National Tradeshow and Conference, HAuNTcon is a celebration of people who love Haunted Houses and Halloween. It is three days and nights jam-packed full of Networking, Tours of area Haunted Attractions, educational seminars, make-n-takes teaching the latest is Haunting techniques and a tradeshow exhibiting the latest in Haunting props and equipment.

Started in April of 2004 in Charlotte, North Carolina, HAuNTcon moved to Dallas, Texas in 2005, Denver, Colorado in 2006, Dearborn, Michigan in 2007, Houston Texas in 2008, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2009 and Orlando Florida in 2010 and is scheduled to be in Louisville, Kentucky in 2011, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2012, Dallas, Texas in 2013, Houston, Texas in 2014 and Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2015.

Offerings include an over-night pre-show bus tour of state wide Haunted attractions, tours of local Haunted attractions, tradeshow floor, costume ball, haunted garage sale, hearse rally and Haunter education including workshops, make-up and product demonstrations, and prop how-to make-n-takes.

HAuNTcon is open to the general public and all ages are welcome to attend. If you operate a Haunted House or would like to, If you act at a Halloween Event or would like to, if you Haunt your Home, or if you are just a fan of Haunted Houses and Halloween, then HAuNTcon is a "not to be missed" weekend of Haunting fellowship, Haunt tours and just plain fun!

An entry fee is required for each activity.
