HAuNTcon 2014 will be in held in ….. (drum roll please) Houston Texas January 25-27. All education, tradeshow exhibits and the Costume Ball will be at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida De Las Americas – the preshow tour is January 23-24, the All Day Workshops are on the 28th and the Costume ball is on the 25th. The HAuNTcon Host Hotel is the Crown Plaza Houston Downtown 1700 Smith St, Houston, TX 77002 and $119 a night with HAuNTcon discount. See link to the right for hotel information.
Now here is the big news. HAuNTcon is moving to January to run concurrently and in the same building as the industry’s wholesale tradeshow, The 2014 Halloween & Party Expo. For the first time since 2008, everything Halloween will be under one roof. HAuNTcon Attendees are invited to visit the 1,400 + booths, attend the education, fashion shows and galas at the sister conference, free of charge. But note: The Halloween & Party Expo is first and foremost a wholesale buying show for officially certified buyers. This is NOT a cash-and-carry show. HAuNTcon attendees who cannot provide official documentation as industry buyers will be required to wear/display badges differentiating them from officially certified buyers.

We had such a great Dallas HAuNTcon in 2013 that we wanted to reward our southern supporters by staying in Texas. We started looking at other Texas cities, but Houston was the obvious choice.
Holding the show early in the year is a bold move that we have been contemplating for some time. May is getting crowded with Haunter gatherings. It seemed, we were always a week before, a week after or the same dates as another show every year, but there were no shows over the winter months for Haunters to get their Haunt fix. Now there is!
With the show being in January, attendees get a full 2 month planning head start on ordering props and equipment for their shows. Vendors get winter sales (to pay the heating bill) and 2 additional months to fulfill orders. Win, win and WIN!
Houston already had a Halloween show in January. Should we be after them, before them, or the same time as them? If we were going to be the same time as them… why not in the same building? When we approached The Halloween & Party Expo, (to our surprise) they were all for it. Then we just had to work out the details, and here we are.
We learned from our attendee survey that over 50% of HAuNTcon attendees are haunt owners. We also learned that people attend HAuNTcon for the education first and foremost. Followed by Haunt Tours and distantly by the Tradeshow and social events. So in 2014 we are taking the HAuNTcon education to the next level. There are lots of great south Texas haunts in driving distance to Houston, and moving the show to January will drastically increase the size of the HAuNTcon tradeshow floor.
We think the move is brilliant! As do all of the vendors and attendees we consulted with before we made the decision, (well it had to grow on a few, but they came around.)
The trouble is that January is not far away! We now are in full frenzy mode to get the tours locked down, get the education in place, the ticketing up and running, and booth sales underway. All with Halloween between now and then. But the HAuNTcon team is up to the task and changes are underway.
