EACH OF US has something important to share. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or new to our industry, sharing fresh, bold, new ideas is what HAuNTcon is all about!
Do a makeup or product demo, tell us what you have learned about haunt marketing, offer a hands-on workshop, show us how you use social media, share your best room designs, teach us how you train your actors, tell us how you found funding, help us write a business plan – whatever your expertise, whatever you have learned from your experience inside or outside haunting that will help others do what they do cheaper, faster or better, we ask you to tell us about it!
It is said that public speaking can be people’s greatest fear, but I find that when I know the subject matter, really know what I am trying to say…that presenting a seminar is a lot of FUN!
So what are you afraid of? CLICK HERE to fill the speaker form! You will be glad you did and so will our attendees!

Dateline Chicago: A new haunter’s conference called Chicago Frights! will debut July 16 – 19 at the Hilton in Liles/Naperville Illinois, Chicago Frights will be the last haunter conference of the year. Group hotel rates are $114 a night. Haunt tours will include an all day pre-show road trip of area haunts July 16th. Night time tours include Basement of the Dead and Shattered 3D on Saturday, and a tour of Massacre Haunted House on Sunday night.
Similar to HAuNTcon, Chicago Frights will include networking opportunities including a huge costume party Friday night. The conference will also be chocked full of the best education provided anywhere, with seminars, hands on workshops and creative sessions. The focus of the education will be on the last minute needs of haunters, like make up and actor training.
The Dealer Room will be open Friday night, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Booth and dealer tables will be reasonable priced and be a great opportunity for last second sales for the large haunt companies, but also affordable enough for new companies and dark artists to exhibit. (Prices and Registration to be announced)
“When we moved HAuNTcon to early in the year, we knew weather would be a deterrent to pick northern cities as event locations.” explained industry notable Leonard Pickel, “We knew at the time, we would have to add a summer conference to tour haunts that would be snowed out in January.”
Chicago Nights is a cash and carry haunters gathering open to the general public, and all ages are welcome. Join haunters from across the country in Chicago, July 17-19, 2015 for the last chance to check out dealer products, learn haunter techniques and tour local haunted events before your haunt season really kicks in. Contact Leonard Pickel at 972-951-5100 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or check out the event website at www.chicagofrights.com (I thought I would have the website up by now, but it is still under construction) Join our FACEBOOK PAGE for Chicago Frights Updates!!

Thank you to the ownership and staff of 13th Gate and Necropolis 13 in Baton Rouge, the Rise Haunted House in Tickfaw, and The Mortuary in New Orleans, Louisiana for putting in the hours and effort in opening their attractions off season for HAuNTcon attendees. Our exit polling shows that this year’s haunted attraction tours were outstanding and raises the bar for future HAuNTcon tours. Thanks also to Visit Baton Rouge, who sponsored the buses for the haunt tours.
Thank you to the plethora of haunters who put in the time and effort to prepare seminars and workshops to share their expertise, experience and knowledge with HAuNTcon attendees. Sharing and community is what HAuNTcon is all about and this year’s presenters were as diverse and innovative as they were exemplary. A special thank you goes to movie FX icon Robert Kurtzman for offering 2 multi-hour workshops over the weekend. Those who took his classes could describe them only as “life changing.”
The 2015 HAuNTcon tradeshow was SOLD OUT, and those who were able to get booths were rewarded by high sales and the time to really meet and get to know the movers and shakers in attendance at the show. I wanted to thank you for signing up for the preshow tour. It will be the largest HAuNTcon Preshow tour we have had for a while which will make things interesting! And even more fun!
First off, a breakfast is provided in the lobby of the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel. Check in for the preshow begins at 7:30am at which time you will be provided with a voucher to get something to eat at the nice breakfast/lunch/snack/drinks kiosk in the hotel lobby. They even have FREE coffee if you are “staying at the Belle.” (or know someone who is, wink wink).
The first stop on the tour is a short 10 minute walk from the hotel, so travel light. If you have something you don’t want to carry that far, let us know at the check in. The tour of the Haunted Old Louisiana Capital building starts promptly at 8:30am, so please get there before then. If anyone has issues walking that far, please let us know at check in. We will get you there.
The buses will pick you up AT the Castle. As soon as you see the Ghosts of the Castle presentation and take a quick look at the amazing building, get on the bus! Please get on the first available, because as soon as it is full, it is heading out. If you have people you want to ride with, stay together. The LAST BUS loads at 9:30am. Make sure you are on a bus by then.
The goal for the day is to stagger the buses by 15 minutes, so that three buses are not all arriving at the same time and the last bus spends all day waiting in line. To do this we HAVE TO stick to a schedule! You will be given an itinerary by the captain of your bus once you get on a bus. If the itinerary says your bus is loading at a set time, BE ON THE BUS before that time!
Each of you have a phone with a clock on it. It is not fair to have 50 people on the bus waiting for you to show up so they can stay on schedule. If you are not where the schedule says you need to be on time to get on the bus, the bus will leave without you. Ask people who have been on the bus tour before, we leave late people every year. Get your bus captain’s phone number and make sure he has yours in case of emergency, (if you are not a punctual person… have cab fare ready! Just in case!)
Next stop is the Rise Haunted house. We will do a lights on tour of the haunt and eat lunch there. Photos for your personal use are allowed on the Preshow tour. Do not post photos of the haunts anywhere. And please don’t take any photos during the lights off tours. It is inappropriate to be flashing pics while the actors are trying to scare you!
After the rise we head to St. Louis Cemetery #1. This tour is self paced, so look for Marie Laveau’s crypt. You can’t miss it, it was recently defaced and has been painted white and cordoned off. From this stop you have about 3 hours for a self-paced tour of the French Quarter. You have free tickets to the Wax Museum and the Pharmacy Museum. Just show your wristband to get in. Pace yourself and don’t spend too much time in any one place or you will have to hurry to the bus and miss something. Don’t miss the bus! Check your schedule for time, but the last bus LEAVES at 10 minutes until 5pm.
The next stop is Mardi Gras World. The building is CRAMMED FULL of oversized props and floats. There are several dark themed floats, so look around. We will be eating dinner near an incredibly themed out Louisiana plantation. Be sure to “use the bathroom” so you can walk though and get a close look at this fantastic space.
Then we are back on the buses for the trip back to Baton Rouge. If we stick to the schedule we will be back in plenty of time for freshening up before the Friday Night Haunt tour of 13th Gate and Necropolis 13 (DON’T MISS THAT TOUR!!)
Again, thank you for joining us on the fun and inspirational tour!
See you early tomorrow! Let the Good Times Roll!
