Monday Advanced All Day Workshops

HAuNTcon’s Monday All Day Advanced Workshops are designed to delve into larger more complicated subjects that need more time than can be covered in a one-hour seminar or even a two-hour workshop. These classes are led by our most experienced speakers and offer hours of in-depth, once in a lifetime, one on one instruction. An additional fee is required for each of the classes and includes a box lunch and roundtable discussion. Times, topics and speakers are subject to change.

Note: Registration to HAuNTcon is required to take these classes. CLICK HERE to register.

If you have a suggestion for a workshop you would like to have offered at HAuNTcon 2018, then please share the topic with us at If you have knowledge or expertise that you would like to share with HAuNTcon attendees and are interested in presenting it at a future HAuNTcon then submit a proposal HERE.

Opening Your First Haunted Attraction: Without Losing An Arm And A Leg

by Leonard Pickel of Hauntrepreneurs(R) Themed Attraction Design and Consulting

Halloween has become a phenomenon in the United States and around the world, and every year more and more people are opening “darkly themed” Attractions for fun and PROFIT! Even in the present economic downturn some Halloween events are breaking attendance records, while other attractions are going out of business.

This comprehensive and detailed step by step “how-to” session features the “do’s and don’ts” on getting an attraction open, keeping it open and making enough money to survive for with a Halloween Event. “Wantrepreneurs” planning to open an event someday and well-established October events looking to increase profitability alike will learn from Leonard’s 40 years of professional haunted attraction design and consulting experience.

In this all day session, attendees will explore the reasons why some attractions prosper while others fail. “A Haunted Attraction is a business and as with any other business, what you don’t know about this specialized field can put you out of business before you even get open,” explains haunt industry veteran Leonard Pickel who will share with attendees how to maximize profits while minimizing costs and effort while describing what he sees as the best model for creating a successful Halloween Event.

NOTE: Bring your wifi enabled laptop or tablet, your scary designs, theme ideas and haunting dreams to this not to be missed session. Check out Leonard’s website at

Hands-On Sock Mask Making Workshop
by Michael Burnett of FrightNight Studios, LLC

Join Special Makeup Effects Artist & Designer Michael Burnett for this full day hands on, make-n-take workshop. Suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to advance, this class is for anyone looking to learn how to create custom, inexpensive masks.  Michael will share the techniques and products used to create realistic, reusable masks from foam latex prosthetics.

The Sock Mask is a staple of the haunted attraction. Using nylons stretched over a lifecast as a structure, appliances are added to create a one of a kind creature. Once trimmed and painted, this one off technique is a faster way to make your own mask with no sculpting required.

During this all-day class, students will choose a character, put the mask together and then paint and finish it. Hand painting, airbrushing and proper appliance application for the mask will all be covered.  All materials, as well as the use of lifecasts, airbrushes, and other required equipment, will be provided.  The skills you learned in this workshop can be used to make masks for your whole haunt acting crew.  And remember, you will leave the class with your own finished one of kind mask!

Michael Burnett has 30+ years in SPFX Makeup industry including television, film and haunted attractions like Knott’s Scary Farm, Bush Gardens Hallow Scream and Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in both LA and Orlando.

Registration includes instruction, materials, continental breakfast and boxed lunch.

If you ever wanted to get into mask making, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a master SPFX artist.
