RESIZED-HAUNTCON (30)The HAuNTcon Hands-On Workshops are designed to teach a technique, in a smaller project that attendees can then take home with them. Back at their own attraction, attendees can use these techniques on a grander scale to increase the effectiveness of their attractions.

Friday, January 12

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Prosthetic Sculpt to Scare, and Everything In-between!! – Part 1
by Deanna Bryant-Shaw, Divine Dementia
$60 (2 parts included)

This hands-on-workshop will take attendees through the process of sculpting, molding and pouring there very own latex prosthetic piece. Starting with some basic sculpting techniques, attendees will then move on to the process of molding their creations with simple plaster. When molds are set, a prosthetic will then be poured from the mold they created. Techniques learned in this class can be used in makeup applications, as well as prop making.

 

 

12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Realistic Tombstone Workshop Part 1
by the Davis Graveyard Crew
$40 (2 parts included)

In this 2 part, 4 hour hands-on session, attendees will make their own custom, full-sized epitaph tombstone just like the ones used in the Davis Graveyard. Part 1 will focus on shaping the stone, carving the epitaph and adding decorative accents. Part 2 will cover finishing the tombstone, with faux stone painting techniques and detailed aging methods. Jeff, Chris and the Davis Graveyard team will teach optional organic treatments for dressing the tombstone, and demonstrate a foolproof method for keeping the tombstone upright in almost any weather.

Custom Costuming with EVA Foam
by Bo Thorpe, Raven’s Cross Haunted Village

In this hands-on introduction, Bo Thorpe of Raven’s Cross Haunted Village covers custom-building of inexpensive costume and character elements with EVA foam. Participants will get to work with EVA foam and assemble a costume piece that when finished, they can take back to their own haunt.

A cut above the rest – cuts, boils and scales!

Take your makeup skills to the next level! Cuts, Boils, and Scales oh my! In this intermediate to advanced hands-on session, Christopher Screws of Insanitarium Haunted Attraction will instruct attendees on how to make a hyper-realistic, film quality, 3-D prosthetics and molding the sculpt. Using Monster Clay, attendees will be instructed in how to sculpt a movie quality wound. Once completed, attendees will learn how to mold their masterpieces using silicone. At the end of the class, attendees will take with them a custom wound prosthetic mold that can be used over and over again to make “Pros-aide” transfers or even encapsulated silicone appliances.

Create a Bust Statue Workshop
by the Davis Graveyard Crew  $35

A bust statue can add instant atmosphere to any haunted mansion scene. In this beginner-friendly hands on workshop, Jeff & Chris Davis and the Davis Graveyard Crew will instruct attendees on how to create a simple bust-like statue out of a foam wig head and sculpting materials. Then attendees will learn how to enhance and create distinct facial features to bring their busts to life. The bust-like statue made in this class can be used as a display piece, or as the backdrop for a projection effect. $35 per person limit of 12.

Mini Shrouded Skeleton
by the Davis Graveyard Crew

Monster Mud has been a staple of the haunted attraction industry for as long as premixed sheetrock mud has been around. It has numerous uses and is fantastic for creating quick sculpture and foam texturing. In this hands on workshop, the crew from Davis Graveyard will use Monster Mud, a cotton sheet and a 16” plastic skeleton to create a free standing skeleton monument suitable for any graveyard or New Orleans Style Cemetery. The techniques learned in this class will allow attendees to tackle a litany of similar projects at their own haunt.

Masquerade Masks with Eva Foam
by Victoria Lohman, Hotwire Foam
$20

Join Victoria Lohman of Hot Wire Foam in this Hands-on Workshop as she instructs attendees on how to make an EVA foam mask using hot wire tools. From concept, design, pattern and fabrication to finishing and detailing, attendees will be amazed how easy it is to create masks and other costume pieces using EVA foam and Hot Wire Foam Factory tools.

 

12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Prop Painting and Detail Workshop
by the Davis Graveyard Crew

This session is Part 2 for both the Shrouded Bust Workshop and Mud Skeleton Workshop. Attendees are instructed on how to add paint detail to their creations.
