Whether they are led by business owners showcasing unique and powerful products or artisans sharing techniques and methodologies, no one knows the ins and outs of a particular topic better than the person who pioneered it. No respectable zombie or “scareactor” wants be seen in pristine clothing!! In this lively demonstration, Halloween zealot “Dr. TerrorEyes” (Dr. Bill Ramsay) provides you with the some tips, tricks, ideas, and effects you need to make your living-dead actor or prop look like just he/she just clawed themselves out from six feet beneath a granite headstone.
Techniques to age, decay, distress, bloody-up, and grubby-up your squalid costume’s clothing will be explained to attendees. This isn’t a “learn how to cut cloth with scissors” course! Attendees will get details, an up-close look at samples and a course handout that will inspire them to their own rotted clothing masterpieces. (Even the secret importance of a common shovel will be explained.) Let the Doctor’s 41 years of Haunt experience provide you with the insight and ideas to create truly gruesome clothing. To add to the fun, course attendees are also eligible for several door prize drawings throughout presentation.

The Art of Foam Carving

The creators of the acclaimed Davis Graveyard home haunt along with special Guest Steve O from Garage of Evil will demonstrate their process for texturing foam. This crew’s impressive credits include creating hundreds of foam textured panels for ABC’s “Extreme Home Makeover” of Nightmare Factory haunt in Salem, Oregon, their current display features a three-story faux stone ruined abbey. This session will showcase firsthand foam texturing techniques for looks like stone, brick, cinderblock and aged wood. Chris and Jeff will illustrate how to use different types of foam for specific applications. Attendees will learn which tools work best for what technique.

Scenic Detail and Distressing: Faux Rust and Lath Wall Techniques

In this power packed session, Kenneth Thompson of Kstudios will demonstration explain how he creates Faux Rusting and Lath Wall textures in a haunted attraction. Thompson is the master of high detail and is hired by well known attractions around the country for his expertise. In the first part of the demo, Thompson will cover Faux Rusting – Demonstrating the process of layering shellac and wood stain to create the look of rust on any surface. In this demonstration the process will be performed on a series of PVC pipes in various stages of completion. In the next part of the session, Thompson will delve into a Lath Wall Technique – Demonstrating how to of join strips of wood with drywall compound to make turn of the century lath wall panel sections. Attendees will learn the process, then distressing the lath walls with various wood stains. Followed by a question and answer period about any scenic painting question attendees may have. Safe Easy Blood Delivery Systems for Haunted Attractions

Intro To 3D Haunting

If you have ever wanted to add 3D element to your attraction, then this basic 3D class is perfect for you. The easy 3D techniques covered in this class can be used by anyone regardless of artistic talent in either a professional a home haunt. The presentation will cover different types of UV paints, the UV lighting needed to make the 3d art pop, and the correct placement of color to create the illusion of depth to 3D painting.
What types of props you can paint, the preparation for it, where to purchase the paints and 3d glasses, as well as how to prep your walls floors and props before painting will all be covered. The painting techniques include airbrush, stencils, paintbrush, dry brushing and even spray paint. 3D art samples will be painted in the session and 3D glasses will be provided for the class to see the finished effect. Getting Started with Air Power for Props

Amateur and pro-haunters alike are sometimes mystified by pneumatic animations, but the truth is, it’s just plumbing. In this informative lively class, Steve O’Connor of Garage of Evil, will demystify pneumatics and give attendees a chance to “look and touch,” and see them plumbed and activated. This demonstration covers different valve types, control options and basic pneumatic setups. Victims… I mean volunteers, will be pulled from the class attendees and forced… welcomed to plumb up some basic pneumatics. Attendees will leave the class understanding what to buy, where to buy and how to setup typical pneumatics, with an understanding of advanced concepts like flow restriction and bore/PSI/force calculations. Basic Sketchup for Haunters

Ditch the graph paper and pencil and get started using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to design props and set pieces for your event. Sketchup is a free program used by amateur and pro haunt designers alike. In this hands on basic CAD class, Steve O of Garage of Evil will take the mystery of CAD drafting, instructing attendees on how to use Sketchup for 3D modeling as it relates to haunted attraction design and set construction. Even if you have never used a computer or a pencil to draft before, you will before you leave this lively class. Once comfortable with Sketchup you will find it an indispensable tool in visualizing, creating and documenting for construction props, set pieces, panels in full three dimensions. Bring a laptop with the current version of Sketchup loaded and ready to use. A mouse is required for proper operation of Sketchup. Haunted Attaction Design with Sketchup

Using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) is an indispensable tool for the haunt designer. In this slightly advanced class, Leonard Pickel of Hauntrepreneurs will build on the earlier Basic Sketchup class and instruct the class on how to use the computer program to draw three dimensional wall panels, create a workable floor plan, place set pieces and furniture, add photo texturing and build a complete haunted attraction design in the computer. Then attendees will be use the program to create a walk though view of what the patrons would see if they were experiencing the designed attraction. Allowing a complete realistic vision of what your attraction will look like before the cordless drill is even charged.
