HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE to be screened during HAuNTcon 2018
Q&A and debate about traditional haunts, extreme haunts and the future of the live horror attraction industry to follow screening
(Trumbull, CT, December 18, 2017) – HAuNTcon, taking place January 12-15 in New Orleans, is thrilled to announce that this year’s event will feature a screening of the documentary HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE on Sunday, January 14 at 11:45am. The film is a documentary about how haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme “full contact” terror simulations. But how far is too far? HAUNTERS features interviews with haunters, movie directors, and all involved in the world of scaring people. Following the screening, attendees are invited to join the director and stars of the documentary for a question and answer session.
Jon Schnitzer, director of the film and co-owner of The Brain Factory, has created an experience that explores the rise of terror as entertainment by delving into the lives of Shar Mayer, legendary scare actor; Donald Julson, a traditional boo-scare maze designer; and the infamous Russ McKamey, creator of McKamey Manor, the most controversial full contact haunt of all time.
Following the screening there will be a Q&A and debate about traditional haunts, extreme haunts and the future of the live horror attraction industry.
“We are really excited to be able to present Jon’s film during HAuNTcon 2018,” commented Leonard Pickel, creator of HAuNTcon,”The question and answer session will open a lively debate on future haunting trends and contact versus noncontact attractions.”
In addition to segments on the stars of the film, HAUNTERS includes interviews with notable horror filmmaker Jason Blum (producer of The Purge, Insidious, Split, Get Out), John Murdy (Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights), Margee Kerr (sociologist and author of SCREAM: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear) and many others.
The screening is open to all attendees with a Full Weekend Pass. In addition haunters are invited to participate in 70 hours of education sessions discussing trends, opportunities for creative inspiration, best business practices and more. To purchase a Full Weekend Pass, visit www.hauntcon.com.
